About Me

Hello and welcome to A Kid and A Farm. I run the farm with the help of my son, Landon, and my partner, Shawn - plus a lot of help from friends and the local community.

My passion for gardening started only recently. Growing up, I lived with my grandparents and dreaded helping with the gardening chores.  The opposite was true with my son. They helped raise Landon and he loved everything from being with my Pops, to digging in the dirt, to eating the bountiful harvests.

My grandfather passed away in early 2016 but my son still yearned to garden. I was baffled - how I would continue to nurture my green thumb? I never paid attention and we lived on a third floor in an apartment complex. But I was determined to lessen the loss of my grandfather for my son.

We started off with a couple of potted plants on our fire escape and literally everything died. I was defeated, frustrated, and sad. In 2017, I refused to give up and I tried again. I did more research, joined local garden groups, and Youtube was my savior at that point. That year, we got the smallest harvest of cherry tomatoes, herbs, and a tiny pepper! The rest is history.

In 2018, we moved to a townhome with a backyard and I was finally able to grow in the ground. Our one and only summer there, we had so much extra produce! My interests ventured into food preservation. In 2019, I bought a house and was able to do whatever I wanted in the garden. We have a tiny yard but I have maximized the space by growing vertically. In 2023, I was lucky enough to score more land. A friend from rugby told me her parents still lived close and had a lot of land not being used. I created a flower farm and this year, 2024, I am opening a U-Pick.

Over the last 8 years, I've become heavily involved in the local garden scene. In 2021, I started my own seed swap, since our local county had stopped hosting, due to Covid. I run a handful of local Facebook garden groups which trade plants, share knowledge, and provide help. I even helped our town to start hosting a farmer's market. I am a vendor there as well!

Please join me in my journey as I grow and develop U-Pick Flower Farm for my local community.
